Historical Images of CHLS

This architect's drawing of the new Cambridge High School was constructed on Broadway in 1892.  Just six years later, the Cambridge Latin School moved from its temporary location to the abutting building newly constructed for it on Trowbridge Street.  In 1910, the schools merged into the Cambridge High and Latin School and the two buildings were connected.   At some point reconstruction created an auditorium with entrance stairs on Trowbridge, closing off access from Broadway.  The old Cambridge Latin School's archway then became primary.

Below compares the architectural plan with the building as constructed, though only a side is visible.  The newly-constructed CLS building is in the background of the left photo.
